Liver biopsy in sarcoidosis.

چکیده
No agreement has been reached about the aetiology of the syndrome known as sarcoidosis, Besnier-Boeck-Schaumann disease, lymphogranulomatosis benigna, or non-caseating tuberculosis; and even those who hold decided opinions on this subject admit their inability to demonstrate the agent which they consider responsible. Hence any satisfactory definition of the group of cases to be included under this heading includes a description of the characteristic histological changes, and the most secure basis for a diagnosis of sarcoidosis in the individual case is the demonstration of these changes in affected tissues. If superficial lymphnodes are enlarged, they provide suitable biopsy material; but in some of the more obscure cases, where diagnosis is often of practical importance, these nodes are not involved. In 1943 van Beek and Haex first drew attention to the possible value of aspiration liver biopsy in providing favourable material for the histological diagnosis of sarcoidosis. They reported that in two out of four cases presenting features of this syndrome they had been able to find characteristic changes in the material obtained by aspiration liver biopsy, although in neither of them had there been clinical evidence of hepatic involvement. Subsequently van Buchem (1946) published a further series of fourteen cases in which liver biopsy was performed, with positive results in all. In view of the controversy about the relation between sarcoidosis and tuberculosis van Buchem also carried out liver biopsy in nine cases of active pulmonary tuberculosis. In none were specific changes found in the material examined. The present paper reports three cases presenting clinical manifestations of sarcoidosis, in which characteristic changes were found in liver tissue obtained by aspiration biopsy, and a fourth in which similar changes were an incidental finding in a liver biopsy from a patient showing no other evidence of this syndrome.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem chronic disorder of unknown etiology that affects all of the organs, but the most commonly involved organs are the lungs. Pulmonary involvement is reported in 90% of patients and splenomegaly is reported in 20% of cases. In this study, we report one patient with sarcoidosis and splenomegaly without pulmonary involvement. Patient was a 52 years old, married housewife...
متن کاملLiver sarcoidosis that presented with dysphagia.
We report a case of liver sarcoidosis with dysphagia. Although akinesia of the soft palate, disappearance of the palatal reflex, and pyramidal signs indicated brainstem lesions, brain magnetic resonance imaging showed no lesion and the focus was obscure. Iritis, parotiditis, and hilar lymphadenopathy supported the diagnosis of sarcoidosis. However, lung biopsy was normal. Finally, sarcoidosis w...

Background: Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous multisystem disease of unknown etiology. It has recently been tired to detect Mycobacteria genome in biopsy specimens of patients with sarcoidosis by Polymorphism chain reaction method. Objective: To detect and identify Mycobacteria species in cutaneous lesions of the patients with sarcoidosis by PCR-RFLP. Patients and methods: 20 patients with clinica...

Thirty patients with bilateral lymph node enlargement with or without parenchymal infiltrates on the chest x- ray suspected to have sarcoidosis were studied between June 1980 and December 1989 in our institution. Eleven of these patients who were free of parenchymal infiltrates did not have a biopsy performed and the diagnosis of sarcoidosis was made based on self-limited regression and cl...

INTRODUCTION Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. Although hepatic granulomas occur in 50-65% of patients with systemic sarcoidosis, isolated liver sarcoidosis is rare. Clinical presentation varies from asymptomatic to manifest. The diagnosis is based on a characteristic histopathological finding of liver biopsy. CASE REPORT We reported a 69-year old man was...
